Mor Energy plan to roll out 30MW of tidal energy at Morlais in the following phases:

- Phase 1 (2027) – First of a Kind (FOAK) commercial array
- Phase 2 (2028) – Contract For Difference (CFD) at Auction Round 5 (AR5)
- Phase 3 (2029) – CFD AR7 for 5.5MW of tidal energy using 3 Subhub-ID platform rated at 1.75MW.
- Phase 4 (2030) – Future CFD rounds used to scale to utility scale 3-4.5MW platform and turbine technology

Given the nature of heavy engineering and offshore marine operations, Mor Energy applies rigorous controls to manage the risks associated with turbine assembly, lifting operations, electrical systems, vessel activities and offshore working. All activities are subject to detailed planning, risk assessment and competent supervision, supported by industry best practice, permit-to-work systems and emergency response procedures. Particular attention is given to marine coordination, vessel safety, personnel transfers, adverse weather conditions and operations in high-energy tidal environments. Through effective contractor management, workforce training and continual monitoring of performance, Mor Energy is committed to delivering tidal energy projects safely, responsibly and to the highest industry standards.

Transform Communities Across the UK
Mor Energy’s projects will generate significant economic benefits for Wales and the wider UK by creating a strong domestic supply chain and supporting high-value jobs in the renewable energy sector. Approximately 96% of the project supply chain expenditure is expected to be sourced within the UK, with around 38% spent directly in Wales, ensuring that the majority of investment remains within local and national economies. This approach supports Welsh manufacturers, engineering companies, marine service providers, ports, logistics businesses and specialist contractors, helping to build long-term industrial capability while strengthening the UK’s position as a global leader in tidal energy technology.
The economic impact of these investments is substantial. Tidal energy projects at Morlais typically generate around £1.52 million of Gross Value Added (GVA) for every megawatt installed, reflecting the value created through employment, supply chain activity and local spending. For Mor Energy’s planned developments, this equates to more than £15 million being injected into the local economy and supply chain, creating skilled jobs, supporting apprenticeships and training opportunities, and delivering lasting economic benefits to communities across North Wales. By prioritising local content and UK-based suppliers wherever possible, Mor Energy is ensuring that the transition to clean energy also delivers meaningful prosperity and growth for regional economies.
