Mor Energy Limited

Mor Energy has been setup to develop tidal energy projects in the Celtic Sea and specifically Welsh waters. The initial focus is to develop sites at MORLAIS off Holy Island in North Wales. However, future projects around the Pembroke Coast are in the pipeline. Currently, Mor Energy is operating out of Pembroke Dock.

Awarded 4.5MW of tidal energy capacity

QED Naval, through its Welsh subsidiary was awarded 4.5MW of tidal energy capacity, enough to power over 2,500 homes, at its Morlais site in North Wales, at a strike price of £198/MWh. The Morlais development is situated off the northwest coast of Holy Island and will have the capacity to power over 180,000 homes once fully operational.

Morlais

Mor Energy plan to roll out 30MW of tidal energy at Morlais in the following phases:

  • Phase 1 (2027) – First of a Kind (FOAK) commercial array
  • Phase 2 (2028) – Contract For Difference (CFD) at Auction Round 5 (AR5)
  • Phase 3 (2029) – CFD AR7 for 5.5MW of tidal energy using 3 Subhub-ID platform rated at 1.75MW.
  • Phase 4 (2030) – Future CFD rounds used to scale to utility scale 3-4.5MW platform and turbine technology

Our Tidal Technology

Subhub Tidal Platforms

QED’s community scale platform has well proven itself over the last 6 years of tidal projects. The Kraken Class of platform was built in Belfast in the Titanic Quarter and launched in 2018 at the D1 Quay – used to deploy Dong’s offshore wind farm piles to their projects in the Irish Sea.
